Important news about SEO services

2021. Conductor raises $150M to build out its search-based, organic marketing technology

Conductor, an organic marketing platform designed for SEO, content and web marketing teams, harnesses insights from search traffic to help develop more precise marketing strategies, has secured $150 million. At its core, Conductor’s technology would typically be one of many tools — perhaps dozens nowadays — that a marketer employs to collect and analyze data for crafting and executing campaigns. To this end, the company already integrates with numerous other sources and platforms to streamline management and usage for clients. (The list includes insight tools like Dragon Metrics, Google Trends, TalkWalker, DeepCrawl and SEMrush; project management platforms like Jira, Asana, Trello and WorkFront; and measurement technologies from Adobe, Google, Webtrends and others.) Additionally, its focus on search is potentially more relevant today than ever before.

2021. Botify raises $55 million to optimize search engine indexing

Botify, which developed a search engine optimization (SEO) platform to enhance content indexing and improve visibility in search results, has secured a $55 million Series C round. While there are many practices, both effective and ineffective, in the SEO industry, Botify positions itself as a “white-hat company.” They adhere to search engine terms of service, do not scrape search results for insights and avoid creating dubious backlinks on other sites. The startup initially launched an analytics tool that provides insights into how a crawler assesses your website. The company then introduced Botify Intelligence, which offers a prioritized to-do list to refine your SEO strategy. Currently, they are also working on automation with Botify Activation. When Google's search engine bot queries your site, Botify can take over and respond to requests directly.

2016. Google launched simple website testing tool for small businesses

Google launched a new tool designed to help business owners assess how well their website performs on mobile devices, including both smartphones and tablets. You simply enter your website address and the tool will evaluate your site. It will also provide a more detailed report with recommendations on areas that need improvement, which you can forward to whoever manages your website, if not yourself. Given that mobile searches exceeded desktop searches for the first time last fall, it's crucial for website owners to ensure that sites appearing in search results are accessible, functional and efficient.

2015. Web analytics service SimilarWeb raised $25M

SimilarWeb, a rather clever outfit that specializes in telling websites and mobile app publishers everything they ever wanted to know about their own traffic—and sneakily about their competitors’ traffic too—has somehow convinced the universe to part with $25 million. This impressive pile of cash is meant to fuel its grand schemes, which involve hiring actual humans (gasp!) and gobbling up other businesses. Its nemesis, Alexa (no, not that Alexa), is famous for its rankings of websites, but SimilarWeb aims to take things a step further by boldly adding a dollop of transparency to the mix. And if that wasn’t enough to turn heads, they also dish out free tidbits on search marketing, display traffic, and other delightfully nerdy topics. Meanwhile, the company pays its own bills by enticing users into its Pro tier, a modularly priced delight that starts at $200/month and lets you cherry-pick precisely the data you desire. Ingenious, isn’t it?

2015. Google rebrands Webmaster Tools to Google Search Console

In a moment of what can only be described as one of those peculiar cosmic decisions that seem to make sense when you tilt your head and squint just so, Google has decided to rename *Google Webmaster Tools* to Google Search Console. And why, you might ask, would an almighty internet entity bother with such a thing? Well, Google, in its infinite and occasionally baffling wisdom, pointed out that the tool is not merely the exclusive domain of webmasters (a title that evokes images of mysterious, robe-wearing guardians of the world wide web) but rather something for a veritable menagerie of users: hobbyists, small business owners, SEO wizards, marketers, code poets, visual sorcerers, app conjurers, and, yes, even the fabled webmasters themselves. The idea was to make the name less intimidating and more come-hither, rather than frighten off those who might feel undeserving of the arcane title of "webmaster." Beyond the name, however, nothing else has transmogrified, even though Google continues to sprinkle new features onto the tool like so many curious and unpredictable cosmic dust particles.

2015. Web presence management service Conductor raises $27 Million

In a universe teeming with ads about the latest, greatest, and often most mind-bogglingly unnecessary things, Conductor has taken it upon itself to rescue humanity from the tedium of ad bombardment by, rather ingeniously, sidestepping them altogether. Today, armed with a fresh $27 million in Series D funding, Conductor is on a mission to prove that content’s true worth lies not in how much one pays to plaster it across the galaxy but in the charm, relevance, and strategic allure it holds for its intended audience. Having evolved from its humble SEO-focused beginnings, Conductor now realizes it’s not about cajoling eyeballs with pricey banners or exotic ad words, but about the genuine gravitational pull a brand has on its real-life fans—such as the Huggies folks, who are likely after a demographic of sleep-deprived, child-toting adults, most often the dedicated and under-caffeinated moms. With a rather clever twist, Conductor watches what these humans actually click on and, as is cosmically expected, unpaid content usually wins the click race. Thus, Conductor doesn’t just create content—it orchestrates a grand plan that makes brands resonate with their public as naturally as a Vogon poet deters anyone from interrupting his performance.

2015. BrightEdge launched new tools for content marketers

SEO service BrightEdge has introduced new tools designed to help you monitor the competition while you work. In this regard, BrightEdge developed its Content Optimizer, which leverages the BrightEdge Data Cube (a name that sounds quite advanced) to function as a sort of writing advisor. As the marketer progresses, the Content Optimizer offers suggestions on aspects such as blog post organization or when a post is overly lengthy. With Content Optimizer 3.0, BrightEdge is incorporating data from a new source — competitors. This means marketers can now view the types of content their rivals are publishing and assess its effectiveness, while also receiving advice on how to create competitive content.
