Shinobi is Open Source, written in Node.js, and real easy to use. It is the future of CCTV and NVR for developers and end-users alike. It is catered to by professionals and most importantly by the one who created it.
Frigate NVR and Shinobi are both open-source video surveillance self-hosted programs. They provide web-interface for control panel and viewing video feeds and can integrate AI for object detection and other smart features.
But Frigate NVR (launched in 2019) is more optimized for real-time object detection, particularly useful for home security setups with AI-based event detection. It relies on the Coral Edge TPU for AI processing. It's also used in setups where lower latency and high accuracy are critical.
Shinobi (2016) is a British product designed for both small-scale and large-scale video surveillance and is more suitable for business. Shinobi supports large number of cameras and provides flexible customization options, including plugins and scripting (for advanced users).
