Microsoft Exchange Server is the server side of a client–server, collaborative application product developed by Microsoft. Exchange's major features consist of electronic mail, calendaring, contacts and tasks; support for mobile and web-based access to information; and support for data storage.

hMailServer
hMailServer is a free, open source, e-mail server for Microsoft Windows. It's used by Internet service providers, companies, governments, schools and enthusiasts in all parts of the world.

Microsoft Exchange and hMailServer are both email servers (for Windows) that allow companies manage, send and rout received emails via SMTP, IMAP and POP3 protocols. They allow to create multiple email accounts for users. have anti-spam and anti-virus features and integrate with third-party email clients like Outlook.

But Microsoft Exchange (veteran, released in 1996) had become almost the standard for large enterprises. It offers deep integration with Microsoft Office and Exchange Online for hybrid cloud solutions, provides advanced calendaring, task management and collaboration tools. Of course, it's more resource-consuming and requires dedicated personal for setup and maintenance.

hMailServer (2001) is a Swedish open-source mail server for small and medium business, lightweight and less demanding in terms of hardware. It lacks built-in collaboration tools like calendaring and task management but is easier to set up and maintain.
