Important news about Online Invoicing software

2021. Stampli, the invoice management platform, launches a digital card

Stampli, a SaaS company that simplifies corporate invoice management, has introduced Stampli Card. The concept is that some companies work with vendors who only accept, or prefer, credit card payments. This can result in what Stampli calls “shadow spend.” When a company pays a vendor via ACH, check, or even through a third-party payment service, there are typically stringent rules and procedures governing how those invoices and payments are managed. When a vendor requests credit card payment, this can disrupt the process. It might end up on an employee’s corporate card or elsewhere, bypassing the same rigorous procedures and causing a breakdown in the system.

2021. Zoho Invoice is now free for SMBs

In a rather magnanimous gesture that would make even the most hardened Vogon bureaucrat blink in surprise, Zoho Invoice has declared itself completely free for all small and medium-sized businesses. Yes, free, as in “no coins, no credits, no small rodent sacrifices required.” This bold move is Zoho's way of saying, "We’re rather keen on helping the SMB universe thrive," and they’re not just stopping there. The developers are determined to keep adding nifty updates and clever features, driven by the absurdly noble goal of making invoicing a downright delightful experience—well, as delightful as invoicing could ever be.

2021. Upflow raises $15 million to manage your outstanding invoices

French startup Upflow has secured $15 million in Series A funding. The company aims to assist you in pursuing overdue payments. It streamlines how you collect payments from your customers to enhance your cash flow. Upflow serves as the central hub for viewing all your invoices, tracking payments, communicating with your team and sending reminders. However, Upflow does not intend to replace your existing tools. Instead, the company has developed integrations with popular business tools you already use. For example, you can link your Upflow account with QuickBooks, Xero, Netsuite, Chargebee and Stripe Billing. You can invoice your clients from your current invoicing platform. Upflow imports your invoices, clients and payments. When Upflow detects a late payment, you receive a notification and can begin sending automated or personalized emails.

2021. Stampli raises $50M to help companies intelligently manage invoices

In the gloriously convoluted universe of invoice management, Stampli has managed to raise a hefty $50 million Series C, which is about as much as it costs to have a nice cup of tea with a Vogon bureaucracy. Stampli, in its infinite wisdom, has turned every dull, lifeless bill into a bustling communications hub—like a galactic council meeting where finance teams chat with vendors and purchase stakeholders instead of discussing hyperspace bypasses. Its system, powered by machine learning that’s probably smarter than the mice running Earth, effortlessly deciphers patterns, allocates costs, and sorts approval workflows without anyone needing to panic. Historically indifferent to payment platforms (probably because arguing about them is the stuff of intergalactic wars), Stampli threw a delightful wrench into the gears in early 2020 by introducing Direct Pay. This handy little addition solves pesky accounting problems while sliding neatly into the modern trend of software companies slyly adding payments solutions to their offerings—because, after all, why not make an extra buck while saving the galaxy from billing chaos?

2019. Stampli raises $25M to bring AI to invoice management

In a universe not entirely unlike our own, in which invoices roam freely through vast corporate landscapes, bewildering everyone in their path, there exists a bold hero by the name of Stampli. This daring company has just raised a $25 million Series B round to take on the interstellar nuisance of invoice management. You see, the problem is that people all over an organization are busy procuring services and contracting vendors, yet the fine folks in finance—those entrusted with processing all these scattered bits of paperwork—are typically stationed galaxies away from the action. As a result, the finance team spends its days in a Kafkaesque quest, hunting down colleagues from every distant department to fill in missing details and settle endless questions. Enter Stampli, which gathers all these documents into a collaborative hub where invoices become a sort of interdepartmental gathering spot, a place for everyone to communicate, clarify, and ultimately bring each payment through the cosmos to its rightful destination. Not content with simply linking humans, Stampli has also trained its system to use machine learning—spotting cost allocation patterns, managing approval workflows, and distilling data from invoices with almost psychic precision. And so, with all this brilliance, invoices are tamed, finance teams are liberated, and interdepartmental harmony is, perhaps, just a click away.

2019. Online invoicing software Billie raised €30M

Billie, the Berlin-based startup that offers a B2B invoicing and payments platform, has raised €30 million in Series B funding. Claiming to be Germany’s leading “one-stop shop” for handling all outgoing invoices of B2B sellers, including sending invoices, collecting payments and invoice financing, Billie’s customers range from SMEs, large e-commerce players and transnational marketplaces. Billie currently provides two core solutions. The first is a checkout financing solution for B2B online stores, which embeds a financing option in the online checkout process. The second is SME invoice factoring, which the Billie co-founder describes as a fully automated platform that handles all outgoing invoices of SMEs.

2015. Salesforce acquired quote-to-cash vendor SteelBrick

Salesforce has acquired quote-to-cash provider SteelBrick for $360 million. Quote-to-cash, as the term suggests, is the segment of the sales process that kicks in once you have a potential customer. While CRM tools such as Salesforce.com and Microsoft Dynamics offer a means to manage the basic customer record, a service like SteelBrick assists in preparing a quote, finalizing a contract when the customer decides to purchase and handling billing once the transaction is complete. It's worth mentioning that the SteelBrick solution also features invoicing with Invoice IT, which SteelBrick acquired in September and rebranded as SteelBrick Billing. The entire solution is a particularly good match because SteelBrick is built on the Salesforce App Cloud platform, meaning it already integrates seamlessly with Salesforce CRM.

2015. Contact and quote management service Apttus raised $108M

Apttus, a quote-to-cash SaaS provider built on top of Salesforce.com, announced a $108 million funding round. Apttus software manages quotes, contracts and revenue administration. CFO Jeff Van Zanten notes that while there are competitors offering parts of this process, none match the range of services his company provides. Apttus is closely integrated with Salesforce.com, not only because Salesforce Ventures is a major investor, but also because Van Zanten mentions that their sales teams collaborate directly within client organizations. The two products are well synchronized as Apttus steps in where CRM leaves off in the customer record. When you start quoting prices, finalizing contracts, or processing payments, Apttus takes over.

2015. Freshbooks allowed to invoice clients faster

Online accounting software FreshBooks has introduced three enhancements to accelerate your billing process. With a new search box at the top of the list, you can simply begin typing the client’s name you’re seeking and only the relevant matches will appear. Adding a new client directly from the New Invoice screen is also more convenient. Now, the “New Client” field is prominently positioned at the top of your client list to streamline the creation of new clients. Additionally, when you update a client’s contact details (such as their address or phone number), the changes will immediately reflect on all unsent invoices for that client. Invoices that have already been sent will retain the previous information by default, though you can manually update them if necessary. So if you prefer to avoid repeating tasks, this update is particularly advantageous.

2014. Zoho Invoice became available for Windows Surface and Windows Phone

Zoho Invoice app is now accessible for Windows Phone and Windows Surface. It enables you to manage your income and expenses on the move, just as effectively as you would in your office: generate invoices in minutes and send them to your clients with a single tap, record payments immediately once the invoice is settled, monitor your reimbursable expenses effortlessly, add all your contacts using your tablet or phone, get Quick Insights from the Dashboard and track Time from your mobile device. You can monitor time and tasks for your projects easily by logging the duration spent on a task or by simply activating the timer on your Windows Phone app.
