Important news about Business Phone systems

2024. RingCentral introduced AI Assistant

RingCentral AI Assistant that is now included in all RingEX tiers at no additional cost, is designed to help you save time, stay organized and focus on what matters most. It allows to generate real-time call notes and summaries (automatically captures important points, open questions and action items during phone calls), polish and translate your texts (helps draft, refine and translate messages across six languages), catch up on missed conversations (recaps key points in group chats), turn meetings into actionable insights (from transcriptions to keyword-based video highlight reels, it provides all the tools to ensure you leave every meeting with clear next steps).

2021. Ericsson to acquire cloud communications company Vonage for $6.2B

Ericsson, a global networking firm, decided it needed a touch of modernization and acquired cloud communications company Vonage in a $6.2 billion deal. With Vonage, Ericsson is gaining a more contemporary approach to communications that includes a cloud contact center, communications APIs (similar to Twilio’s) and a voice over internet protocol (VoIP) solution. The company believes it can build on its 4G and 5G networking technology by leveraging the essential components of the Vonage portfolio. Specifically, Ericsson is concentrating on Vonage’s communications APIs, which it believes will enable it to access a network of developers worldwide creating applications based on 4G and 5G technology.

2021. Aircall raises $120M for its cloud-based phone system

Aircall has secured $120 million in a Series D funding round. The startup is developing a cloud-based telephone system for call centers, support lines and sales teams. It integrates with Salesforce, HubSpot, Zendesk, Slack, Intercom and other popular CRM, support and communication platforms. Aircall users can create local numbers and establish an interactive voice response menu. The service handles the call queue for you, allowing your agents to begin answering incoming calls. Agents can transfer calls and place customers on hold. Administrators can access analytics, monitor calls and track performance.

2021. Zoho launched small business phone software Zoho Voice

Zoho Voice is a new online business phone software that can be accessed by anyone, from anywhere and on any device. Zoho Voice is a hosted Private Branch Exchange (PBX) system, so no special telephony equipment is required—just an active internet connection. Set up your Zoho Voice account, purchase voice credits from our store, acquire a local or toll-free number from any country you choose and begin making calls. Zoho Voice goes beyond just making or receiving calls; you can add your team to your account, assign phone numbers to each team member and decide whether to permit inbound and outbound service for a specific number. You can also assign extension numbers to your agents and enable internal extension dialing.

2020. Business Phone system OpenPhone raises $14M

OpenPhone, the company aiming to bring modern communication features to our work phones, has secured $14M in Series A funding. OpenPhone enables employees to make calls, send texts and enrich their business contacts all from an app on their phone or computer. Additionally, the app facilitates collaborative work across the platform. For instance, a company or department can have a shared number along with individual numbers and can also synchronize and share contact information across the organization. Nonetheless, several rivals are also working to modernize the work phone alongside OpenPhone. RingCentral and DialPad are two examples of companies moving the work phone into the cloud.

2020. Aircall raises $65 million for its cloud-based phone system

Aircall, which is developing SaaS business telephony service, has secured a $65 million Series C round. Companies use this solution to operate a call center and handle support requests or to enhance the workflow of your sales team, for example. Aircall wants to distinguish itself from traditional call center solutions thanks to integrations with third-party services. For example, you could see your call information in your CRM to check if somebody on your team has already followed up on a lead. Or you could initiate a phone call from Zendesk if there’s an urgent support request. More recently, the company has introduced integrations with Chorus.ai and Gong for demanding customers managing call center.

2019. Vonage brings number programmability to its business service

Vonage introduced number programmability for its enterprise clients. This allows businesses to take any VBC number and enhance it using Nexmo’s APIs. To activate this, users simply toggle a switch in their management console, enabling them to programmatically route calls, develop custom communications apps and workflows and integrate third-party systems to create chatbots and other tools. Regarding these capabilities, users can essentially do anything they need with these calls — and that’s significant because each company has unique processes and requirements.

2018. Vonage acquired cloud-based contact center startup NewVoiceMedia

Cloud-based unified communications provider Vonage acquired NewVoiceMedia, a UK startup specializing in cloud-based contact center solutions, for $350 million in cash. This acquisition will help Vonage expand the range of services it offers and improve its profit margins by broadening its suite of value-added IP services. These services currently include office phone systems, marketing automation and an existing call center solution, as well as MPLS and other IP services. Specifically, it provides the opportunity for deeper integration with other software providers like Salesforce, a crucial aspect of how Vonage markets its services to potential customers. Vonage asserts that NewVoiceMedia is the largest privately-owned, dedicated cloud contact center company worldwide, with approximately 700 clients primarily in the mid- to large-enterprise sector, including Adobe, Siemens, Time Inc., FundingCircle and Rapid7.

2018. Dialpad acquired AI-startup TalkIQ

Dialpad, the business communications platform, has acquired TalkIQ to infuse artificial intelligence into its services. TalkIQ can capture voice almost in real time and apply sentiment analysis and analytics. This could offer a customer service operation immediate feedback as well as guidance for managers on when to step in during a call. The TalkIQ features will be integrated directly into the Dialpad suite of applications, which includes voice and video capabilities, customer service call center management and UberConference for conference calling.

2016. Aircall launched mobile apps for its cloud phone system

Aircall, the platform that allows you to create virtual numbers in numerous countries worldwide and share them with your team, has just launched its mobile apps for iOS and Android, now out of beta. With these new mobile apps, Aircall users can make or receive VoIP calls directly on their phones, without needing to stay at their desks. Unlike other customer support tools, Aircall doesn’t require any specialized hardware and operates on a software-as-a-service model. Aircall enables you to share contacts and schedules, assign calls to specific team members and monitor precisely what’s happening. It’s a convenient way to see if your coworkers have already handled a client.
