Important news about Time Trackers and Timesheet software for business
2023. Erudit raises $10M to monitor workplaces for ‘misalignment’
In a universe where the quest to understand one's workforce often feels as nebulous as understanding why one should not trust Thursdays, Erudit has made its galactic mark, nabbing a neat $10 million in a Series A funding round. This platform, an astute AI-powered entity, discreetly monitors metrics of human unrest—like the risk of turnover and burnout—as it interfaces harmoniously with corporate habitats like Slack, Microsoft Teams and Zoom, feeling out the organizational “vibe.” With algorithms allegedly honed by psychologists (an arrangement that likely began as some sort of experiment to see if computers could indeed understand despair), Erudit assigns various scores on "alignment," "autonomy," "engagement," and "satisfaction." The website even parades the AI's ability to pick up on faintly ominous phrases like "I’m so stressed," "I can’t handle it anymore," and the classic, "I’m looking at other jobs," thereby enabling employers to detect storms on the workforce horizon, without, of course, interrupting the carefully calculated harmony of the corporate machine.
2022. Hourly.io banks $27M for its new approach to providing workers comp and payroll for hourly wage workers
Hourly.io — which has developed an app that monitors working hours, processes payroll and then calculates and allocates workers’ compensation insurance to individuals based on that — has secured $27 million in funding. Hourly.io is not the only startup addressing this general market, nor the specific challenge of solving the fundamental issues of organizing and paying these workers. Others that have raised capital to expand their businesses include team management app Homebase; Fountain for sourcing and hiring hourly workers; another platform for connecting shift workers with employers, Shiftsmart; Wagestream, a financial “super app” for waged workers; When I Work for managing shift scheduling; and many more.
2021. Memory.ai, the startup behind time-tracking app Timely, raises $14M
Snowflake, with all the bravado of a hyper-intelligent shade of blue, managed to flip the script on data warehousing, sparking a flurry of epiphanies in corporate boardrooms. But now, a plucky upstart, Firebolt, has sauntered onto the scene with the audacity to disrupt the disruptor, bagging a cool $127 million in Series B funding. Boasting a performance edge that’s a mind-boggling 182 times faster than its rivals, Firebolt’s wizardry lies in a delightfully brainy SQL-based system inspired by obscure academic research (the kind that usually gathers dust in ivory towers). By compressing data into a featherweight format and parsing it in clever, never-before-seen ways, Firebolt aims to tame data lakes and seamlessly tether them to sprawling data ecosystems, all while sipping on a mere thimbleful of cloud capacity. Translation: lower costs, fewer headaches, and possibly the quiet admiration of dolphins.
2021. Productivity analytics startup Time is Ltd. raises $5.6M
Productivity analytics startup Time is Ltd., aiming to become the Google Analytics for company time, has secured $5.6 million. We are all acquainted with unproductive meetings, incessant notifications, chat, video conferencing tools and the flood of emails. Time is Ltd. states it intends to tackle these issues by integrating with insights and data platforms like Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Zoom, Webex, MS Teams, Slack and others. The data and insights collected would then assist managers in understanding and adopting a new approach to evaluate productivity, engagement and collaboration, according to the startup.
2017. Intuit acquired time-tracker TSheets
In a move that could only be described as a particularly cunning piece of financial hitchhiking, Intuit, the ever-inventive entity behind such marvels as QuickBooks, has gobbled up TSheets, a time-tracking and employee-scheduling service boasting a galactic-sized clientele of over 35,000, for the modest sum of $340 million. The reasoning is blindingly clear, like discovering your towel isn’t just a towel: QuickBooks and TSheets both cater to the bustling galaxy of small-to-medium businesses, with no fewer than 12,000 overlapping customers already enjoying this improbable partnership. Rather than simply chasing new customers across the void, Intuit’s grand scheme appears to be the augmentation of the QuickBooks ecosystem—a sort of digital Garden of Eden, complete with TSheets integration already in place. Conversations with Intuit’s deep thinkers reveal their mission is to remove friction, much like the sudden absence of Vogons at a poetry reading, with QuickBooks at the center of this ambitious plan.
2014. Timely turns your calendar into time tracker
Timely is a time-tracking application that doesn’t concentrate on specific tasks or projects, but rather offers a broader view of your work week. You estimate how long you’ll spend on a project on a future day and use that to determine how much additional work to take on or meetings to schedule. Timely is accessible on iOS and the web and today it is introducing a new feature that allows you to import meetings and events from your calendar, so you don’t need to input the same information into multiple apps. Timely is free for individual use, but there are restrictions on the number of projects you can manage simultaneously. It is most effective to use Timely as a team or organization with one of its paid plans, starting at $49 per month for a team of five.
