Important news about Website Security platforms for business

2023. Cloudflare launches new AI tools to help customers deploy and run models

Cloudflare, the cloud service provider, is unveiling a fresh suite of applications to assist clients in creating and deploying AI models at the network edge. One of the new tools, Workers AI, allows users to access nearby GPUs hosted by Cloudflare's partners and run AI models on a pay-as-you-go basis. It aims to ensure AI inference consistently occurs on GPUs close to users (geographically) to provide a low-latency, AI-enhanced user experience. Leveraging ONNX, the Microsoft-backed intermediary machine learning toolkit used to convert between different AI frameworks, Workers AI allows AI models to run wherever processing makes the most sense in terms of bandwidth, latency, connectivity, processing and localization constraints. Another offering, Vectorize, supplies a vector database to store vector embeddings — mathematical representations of data — produced by models from Workers AI. A third, AI Gateway, is intended to deliver analytics to help customers better manage the costs of running AI applications.

2023. Website security platform Imperva is acquired by French giant Thales

French aerospace and defense group Thales is acquiring Imperva - a data and application security company with services covering web application firewalls (WAFs), API security, DDoS protection, account takeover (ATO) protection, data activity monitoring (DAM) and more. With Imperva under its wing, this marks Thales’ entry into the application security market specifically, while it’s also now growing its existing footprint in the data security sphere. Thales has invested considerable resources in recent years strengthening its cybersecurity offerings through acquisitions. This includes a $5.5 billion deal in 2017 to acquire Gemalto, a company providing digital identification and data protection for industries such as banking.

2023. DataDome, which uses AI to protect against bot-based attacks, raises $42M

DataDome, a provider of bot protection services for mobile apps, websites and APIs, has raised $42 million in a Series C round. DataDome was created in 2015 when most companies weren’t able to detect and block bots. The idea was to build a platform that could prevent bot-based threats, but in a unique way — one that eschewed static rules for machine learning that assesses every request to a website, mobile app or API. DataDome isn’t the only company doing this, of course. There’s anti-bot startup Kasada, which helps to fight online bots using its proprietary anti-bot platform Polyform. ThreatX develops bot defense tech for APIs and web apps, while PerimeterX uses machine learning to help understand normal behavior and shut down anomalous, bot-driven behavior in an automated fashion.
